We all have places we would love to visit and our reasons to want to can be varied. 

This week my mind and heart have been concentrating on familial love.

On the 12th and 13th September (yes this weekend) I will be exhibiting at The Scout Hut on Cemetery Road (opposite the Petrol Station) with two other 2D artists on the Wirksworth Art and Architecture Trail Derbyshire and the following weekend at The Book House, Penn Lane with four other artists on the Melbourne Art and Architecture Trail which is in the edge of Derbyshire.

For my part the changes in the seasons evoke lots of different feelings and September more than most months, with its endings and beginnings.

In my newest work I am expressing the moment in colours of the land and sky and indulging in cooler, muddy colours just like the ploughed fields next to my barn studio.  Some might say they are brown, but when i look closely they are a whole host of colours. I think soil is fascinating.

This painting isn't about making a statement or explaining a particular idea. Instead, it is about the physical and sensual experience of painting — the sweeping brushstrokes, the interplay of colour, and the way forms and mood begin to emerge through the process.

Some places leave a lasting impression long after you have returned home.

Walking in Australia's Blue Mountains was one of those experiences for me. It inspired Under Blue, a painting that seeks to capture not only the movement and colour of the landscape, but also the thoughts and emotions I experienced while walking there.

I am currently obsessed with the beauty of the swaying barley crop, now tall and alive in the summer breeze. Outside my window as I paint, I’m surrounded by colours that seem to constantly change and tease me.
