Season’s Tease

I am currently obsessed with the beauty of the swaying barley crop, now tall and alive in the summer breeze. Outside my window as I paint, I’m surrounded by colours that seem to constantly change and tease me.

We cannot bask in a “summer eternal”, but I can try to capture its shifting beauty.

The sky, the wheat, and the barley are never still. As they move and change, so too does their colour — throughout the day and even from moment to moment. Blonde, yellow, strawberry blonde, mauve, violet, and soft greys appear and disappear as sunlight comes and goes.

Using tulips as a symbol of newness and romance, I have painted pale pink, blonde, yellow, mauve, grey and blue flowers. They seem to sway and dance alongside the barley, echoing the rhythm of the landscape.

Everything outside my window feels like it is in motion — colour, light, and air all blending together in a kind of quiet performance.

This work, Season’s Tease, is my attempt to hold onto that fleeting beauty, even as it changes before me.
