Undulates

My new collection Undulates: Shifting Emotion has evolved from a wish to feel more immersed in the painting process. Creative urges, feelings and sometimes the release of thoughts explored through paint play often unveils a theme, or narrative running through the work. I painted much of this collection on a standing easel working on a large sheet of arches (rough) using a large watercolour mop brush. Such a large water-full brush allowed for confident brushstrokes and sweeping waves of colour, washing over and downwards like a veil. The results are waves of harmonious colour and repetition of flowing forms without the distraction of details. Working this way was exactly what I needed emotionally.

My intention is that the viewer finds an immersive space for their own shifting feelings and thoughts to be held. I have really enjoyed painting these, they have birthed a new way of working for me which I am embracing.
